UW-Madison Undergraduate Admissions: Freshman Class Profile
2006-2007
UW-Madison admission is competitive and involves
careful review of individual applicants. As stated in Freshman
Admission Expectations 2007-2008, "admission counselors
review each application individually, looking for students
who meet the university's high academic standards while
also demonstrating leadership qualities, nonacademic achievement,
diversity in personal background and experience, and potential
for contribution to the Wisconsin community."
In fall 2005, two-thirds of the Wisconsin
residents who applied to UW-Madison were admitted. Additionally,
the overall undergraduate population for fall 2006 consists
of 25% nonresidents, which is the legislatively mandated
cap.
In spring 2006, the Board of Regents resolved
to reduce nonresident tuition to help subsidize costs for
WI resident students. This resolution took effect at every
UW campus except UW-Madison. Consider the following facts
